A tenth grader teenager from Hatibandha SS High School, Lalmonirhat has built a humanoid robot using rudimentary devices.
The humanoid robot, named Toru Humanoid Social, perform various tasks such as answering 10 specific questions programmed in it, navigate in indoor environment, make some limb movements and record and transmit video. It can also navigate in indoor environment.
The robot earned its inventor, Saiedul Mostain Torongo, the 1st prize of the invention competition, which was held as part of the three-day Digital and ICT Fair in Lalmonirhat town.
In the concept paper, Torongo wrote that he had built the humanoid robot with his own design and coding.
“The motion of its two hands are directed by a 2.4GHz analog input transmitter. Taru can understand speeches and give answers with the help of an android app I developed on my own. It can be controlled by only using a smart phone.”
He further noted that he had incorporated a 5.8GHz video transmitter in the robot that allows it to capture real time video and transmit it within a range of 5km.
Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Torongo said building a robot to do household chores and help the physically challenged people was the main inspiration behind the project.
Torongo is the youngest among the three sons of Md Shorful Islam, a chemistry teacher.
The boy enjoys the full support of his family in his ventures in invention as those did not got in the way of the studies. He scored A+ in both the PEC and JSC exams.
Torongo is also accredited with the invention of an Unmanned Aerial vehicle (UAV), which is popularly known as drone. His drone won him the 2nd prize at the 38 th National Science and Technology Week 2017.
