The great Language Movement, a significant event in the nation’s history, was aimed at establishing the right of the mother tongue as well as protecting self-entity, and culture and heritage.
This year, the day is being observed in solemnity on a limited scale around the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The authorities concerned earlier issued a number of guidelines for all to maintain social distancing and health safety while paying tribute to the martyrs.
According to the guidelines, no more than five people from an organization and no more than two visitors at a time would be allowed to pay homage at the Shaheed Minar. People without masks will also not be allowed to enter the premises.
However, many people were seen arriving at the Shaheed Minar without masks and flouting the rules as authorities at the scene failed to impose them strictly on Sunday, raising the risk of further spread of Covid-19.
