In pictures: The never-ending Matuail landfill

Located about eight kilometres away from Dhaka's Gulistan, the Matuail landfill is a 100-acre area that serves as the disposal site for solid waste from areas under Dhaka South City Corporation.

The condition in which the workers work here is horrible — simply put. Most of their family members also tend to work at the landfill.

These photos, taken recently by Dhaka Tribune’s photographer Mahmud Hossain Opu, give a glimpse on how these people have been actively working without proper safety measures since the Covid-19 pandemic entered Bangladesh.
