In pictures: One morning at the Karwan Bazar Fish Market

Kawran Bazar has the biggest and most famous wholesale fish market, along with arguably the largest kitchen market, in Dhaka city. The varieties of fish, which is massive in number, will surely confuse anyone if they go there without any plan to get what they want to buy.

Numerous trucks and pickups bring the fish and other commodities here from different areas of the country overnight. There is no weekly holiday at this market. It operates nearly 24 hours every day, but the early morning is the peak hour for the wholesale and fish markets. The gathering of buyers generally becomes concentrated between 4am and 7am, when the small markets open around the city.
