Thirty-two bodies were recovered as a launch named ML Morning Bird, carrying 50-60 passengers, sank near the Farashganj ghat of Buriganga River on Monday. The vessel was hit by a bigger launch named Moyour-2.
The BIWTA, Fire Service, river police, coast guard and Bangladesh Navy’s diving team carried out the rescue operation and sent the bodies to Mitford hospital morgue. Meanwhile, some passengers managed to swim to the shore.
The drowned launch will soon be pulled up by a rescue vessel. The Ministry of Shipping and BIWTA have separately formed two investigation committees over the incident.
