The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) recovered the body of a Rohingya man from a camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila, following his alleged abduction the night before.
The body was found at around 10am on Saturday near the boundary area of Rohingya camp no 20 of Palongkhali union of the upazila, said Sheikh Mohammad Ali, OC of Ukhiya police station.
The deceased has been identified as Samsu Alam, 38. He was an imam at a mosque inside the camp.
Quoting locals, the OC said some masked miscreants abducted Samsu at gunpoint at around 8pm on Friday. Since then, he was nowhere to be found.
“When the locals spotted a body at camp no 20, they informed APBn. Members of the APBn said that Samsu's body bore several stab wounds,” he added.
The OC further said: “Initially, the police suspect that a rival or a criminal gang had abducted Samsu Alam and committed the murder. We are trying to identify and arrest those involved in the incident."
The body has been sent to the Cox's Bazar 250 Bed District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
