A Rohingya leader was shot to dead at Balukhali camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar early Wednesday.
The deceased is Mohammad Jasim, 25, son of Abdul Goffur of the camp.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of 8 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Md Farooq Ahmed said that several rounds of gunshot were heard in the camp early in the morning. Later, the bullet-ridden body of Jasim was found there.
He was a vocal supporter of camp-based terrorism. An operation is underway to nab those involved in the murder, he added.
Md Islam, a resident of the camp, said that a group of masked terrorists entered the camp, took Jasim out of the house, shot him in the chest and fled.
The gunmen are members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa). Jasim has always been vocal against Arsa's criminal activities. Thus, they killed him, he claimed.
