This technology is set to catalyze the country’s journey to economic prosperity.
The integration of 5G would not just be a pivotal moment for Bangladesh but could serve as the foundation for exponential growth across sectors, including the ready-made garments industry, education, and agriculture.
In garments
The garments industry in Bangladesh still grapples with a critical challenge: Unstable connectivity and security issues stemming from reliance on open Wi-Fi solutions. Enter the promise of automation -- a solution that can significantly boost efficiency, improve quality, enhance safety, and increase production capacity. This would enable garment businesses to secure their competitiveness and success through automated cutting, sewing, material handling, quality control, barcode scanning, and inventory management systems.
However, achieving this automation dream necessitates a robust 5G private network. With 5G, the garments industry can unlock even greater possibilities for automation, propelling it into a new era of productivity and innovation.
In agriculture
In agriculture, 5G's promise of automating labour-intensive processes signals the dawn of smart farming. Its high-speed, low-latency connectivity will foster precision agriculture, employ drones, autonomous tractors, and robots.
This innovation will lead to a heightened productivity, and diminished manual labour, along with fortified, sustainable crop management practices. As Bangladesh's population grows, such future-oriented farming practices, powered by 5G, are pivotal to ensuring food security.
In education
Beyond mere connectivity enhancements, the education sector stands to gain significantly from 5G.
Imagine a university campus with enhanced wireless access, reaching every nook and corner. Such advancements have already started in some institutions. 5G can elevate video conferencing, introduce haptic feedback, augment immersive learning via virtual and augmented reality, and personalize the educational experience.
These tools make lessons interactive, transforming theoretical concepts into tangible experiences and significantly improving educational outcomes.
Challenges in adoption
However, the transition to 5G is not devoid of challenges. Concerns, like increased power consumption and potential radiation risks, although based on misconceptions, must be judiciously addressed.
Addressing these challenges necessitates a holistic approach. It involves crafting energy-efficient infrastructures, such as base stations powered by renewable energy. Smart grid integration plays a pivotal role in optimizing energy management.
Furthermore, EDOTCO Bangladesh, a trailblazer in the country's tower infrastructure, stands at the forefront of these sustainable advancements. As 5G approaches, EDOTCO is focused on furthering its contributions to energy efficiency.
BTRC chairman Mr Shyam Sunder Sikder correclty dismissed myths surrounding harmful radiation from telecom towers. As we strive towards a digitally-connected Bangladesh, addressing such misinformation is imperative to ensure seamless connectivity.
Air Fibre: The success of India
Our neighbouring state, India's digital landscape is rapidly transforming with the arrival of 5G technology, and at the forefront is "AirFiber." This groundbreaking solution offers Fixed Wireless Access(FWA) with speeds spanning from 30mbps to a remarkable 1gbps, complete with a myriad of features.
It simplifies connectivity for homes and offices, providing access to 550+ Tv channels, catch-up Tv, 16+ popular OTT apps, a Wi-Fi router, and smart home solutions, all at an affordable Rs599(+ taxes), approximately Tk800.
"AirFiber" is poised to revolutionize connectivity in the 5G era, democratizing high-speed internet and entertainment. Moreover, it's set to transform small home and medium-sized enterprises and government organizations by facilitating last-mile connectivity and empowering smart citizen initiatives.
The "Smart Bangladesh" vision reflects the government's dedication to our digital evolution. However, realizing this dream requires robust policy interventions. We eagerly await a regulatory climate that not only supports, but propels 5G integration. The government's contributions to the digital framework will lay the foundation for a more connected, prosperous, and inclusive Bangladesh.
As the dawn of the 5G era approaches, we face a pivotal decision: To seize the transformative power of 5G or risk stagnation.
