After a long unfortunate break, educational institutes have now reopened, as the current Covid-19 situation seems to have improved. Students from every level are happy to return to their favourite institutions, meet their classmates, as well as learn from their teachers face-to-face.
It is somewhat a festive situation in the educational institutes across the country. But we should not forget the almost traumatic last two years of the pandemic, which we are still recovering from. So while the students and teachers are readjusting themselves in the classrooms, they need to keep some important things in mind.
Be considerate
Many of the students lost family members; some might have relocated, or their families may have been going through financial trouble; some students, especially young girls, were also forced into early marriages. Teachers and classmates have to be considerate about these issues.
Even though some of these students are returning to the classroom, they might not want to be a part of the general celebrations as they cope with their grief or troubles at home. One moment one may feel okay, and the next, they might feel anxious about something else. Instead of forcing them to act normal or participating in what is expected to be a joyous occasion, everyone needs to be compassionate to these students and help them during these troubled times in whatever way possible.
Everyone is different
Getting used to the campus will be a challenge for many of the students as well as the educators. As every person is different, it is absolutely true that every individual will have a different experience while coping with life on campus after a long interval.
It is completely normal to find yourself in a different light in contrast to the version of yourself two years ago. One should have a nurturing and supporting academic environment to resume the face-to-face learning activities. In fact, there may be numerous possible feelings and experiences throughout this period of transition, which are completely normal.
Take your time
Processing any important adjustment requires time. Some may want to resume their lives from right where they left off, as if their life had been put on hold. Others, perhaps, choose a much slower approach with a reflective pace towards academic life, and want to cautiously adjust to the campus environment again. Both are totally understandable strategies to readjusting to campus life.
New dynamics
It is true that after the deadly pandemic, nothing will feel the same; and people are responding to this new situation in different ways. While some might have been eager to get out and have a good time with friends after the long interval, others may be taking slightly more careful steps towards socializing. But throughout this process, one should not feel left out, or misunderstand the emotion or indifference one may be feeling towards the act of socializing.
Look out for each other
Many students might still be pretty cautious because of health conditions, and these conditions may still present significant concerns. Meanwhile, others might get frustrated with continuing safety measures on campus.
So when faced with an adverse situation or an uncomfortable confrontation, one should definitely face it with composure and help others around him/her to cope in the same way. People are going through a pretty hard time, so a simple act of support or kindness will go a long way to relieve one’s stress and make the transition easier for them.
