News headlines have reported a spate of fires across the nation in recent months. These fires have brought the deficiencies in our fire services into the spotlight. While I’m glad to see our fire fighters are on site at the computer market at Elephant road, and hard at work dousing the fire, I believe the key issue here is preventing them. That’s not to mention that our fire services need to be badly upgraded, with newer and working equipment as well as better training for our fire fighters. Still, no band-aid solution can take the place of preventing them in the first place. What’s more, fire extinguishers are nearly non-existent in every building, whereas there should be one on every floor of every building and home in this country.
