The bizarre aftermath of the much publicised rape case involving a politically powerful perp has given the nation a glimpse into our society’s sick psyche.
That the rapist’s wife decided to torture the victim as punishment, instead of taking out her anger on her cheating husband, is indicative of our predisposition to victim-blaming.
And then, doubling down on the bizarreness, the rapist’s own mother, as compensation to the victim, offered her a marriage proposal on her son’s behalf.
It throws into sharp relief our perverted value system as a society, where it would even enter someone’s mind that marrying one’s rapist is any kind of solution.
It’s time we took a long hard look at the mirror.
