The government’s recent focus on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into public service delivery is one we can get behind.
With public service delivery being among our most persistent challenges, the ambition to move beyond simple digitization toward a smart, automated administrative framework is a positive that could lead to enhanced efficiency, transparency, and service quality.
For too long, public service delivery in Bangladesh has been hindered by procedural bottlenecks and the complexities of traditional bureaucracy, a reality we must move on from. By leveraging AI, we have the opportunity to cut through this red tape, ensuring that citizens receive timely assistance in sectors as critical as health, agriculture, and general administration.
The success of this strategy hinges on our greatest asset: Our youth. By prioritizing AI-skilled training and startup support, the government is creating a pathway for young Bangladeshis to contribute to a knowledge-based economy. However, to truly mirror the success of global technology hubs, we must provide more than just the vision and instead ensure consistent policy support.
If executed effectively, this initiative, and indeed any future use of AI, could fundamentally redefine the relationship between the state and the public, replacing frustration with seamless digital interaction.
With that said, we have seen in our very recent history that technology alone is far from a panacea, and the government’s vision will only be a reality if matched by robust infrastructure and a focus on inclusivity.
We must ensure that the digital divide does not continue to widen and leave vulnerable populations behind, as it is becoming an equitable nation that ought to be our ultimate goal, not only a prosperous one.
We are potentially standing at the threshold of a new era. Embracing AI is fast becoming an inevitable step if we are to have a self-reliant future, but it requires diligent implementation and an unwavering commitment to equitable progress.
