One month since our youth showed us the way

This unity all started when everybody from all walks of life joined the students in their march for justice

Update : 06 Sep 2024, 07:24 AM

It was on August 5 when, as a result of the indomitable spirit of the youth of this nation, the Awami League regime fell, with Sheikh Hasina fleeing the nation after 15 years of misrule.

There is a sense of rejuvenation ever since that day, aided by the formation of the interim government under Dr Yunus, the overwhelming choice to lead our nation’s rebuild.

With over a month since that day, it is important for us, collectively as a nation, to remember that while there remain major issues to resolve, entire sectors to reform, and those responsible for the carnage in the months of July and August to be brought to justice, we are more together as a nation than ever before.

This unity all started when everybody from all walks of life joined the students in their march for justice, and culminated in the fall of the previous regime, something that seemed impossible to most.

This unity continued to be exemplified in the incredible response to the devastating floods that hit the country, efforts that continue to this day, once again with our students leading the efforts for collecting aid and relief for those devastated by the floods.

As we look forward to rebuilding the nation, we must also exercise patience; nation-building takes time, and the interim government has arguably the most challenging task faced by any administration since our Liberation.

One month since being given the opportunity to create a new Bangladesh, we must remember that we have a long road ahead. Yet, with the unity displayed to bring about this change, and with the rapid positive change the interim government is already bringing as a result of their efforts, success looks to be inevitable.
