As Bangladesh prepares for the upcoming general elections, ensuring the safety and security of the nation must be a top priority. In recent years, the country has made significant progress in countering militancy, but we must remain vigilant and pro-active in identifying and thwarting potential threats. Early detection of militancy activities is paramount to keeping our nation safe.
To that end, the swift identification and removal of the crude bomb-like objects from the washroom of the Dhaka University (DU) Arts Building was good to see; while the authorities are currently investigating to check if these are actually crude bombs, it is certainly better to err on the side of caution with regard to such incidents that have the potential to turn sour very quickly.
Any sort of militancy poses a significant challenge to Bangladesh's stability and security. It is imperative that we learn from past experiences and enhance our intelligence-gathering capabilities to prevent any possible disruptions, especially during this most critical time when the nation is already struggling with various issues and political instability threatens overall safety.
