It is good to see that Bangladesh passport jumped five notches in global index, yet another sign that we are slowly but surely moving up in the world.
One of the most significant benefits of an improved passport index is the newfound ease with which nationals can travel across the globe. By securing visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a growing number of countries, the government can allow people the power to explore and experience diverse cultures, boost educational opportunities, and expand their professional horizons.
It is therefore vital that the difficulty Bangladeshis have getting visas be addressed as it does not correspond to our rising status in the world. It is imperative that the government put all resources into easing travel for Bangladeshis, including improving the passport receiving process which, despite digitization, remains extremely inconvenient and cumbersome without having the right contacts.
The government must also continue its efforts to enhance bilateral ties and encourage reciprocity in visa policies. Diplomatic engagement with countries that have traditionally posed challenges for Bangladeshi travellers can lead to favourable changes in visa regulations, streamlining the process further and reducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
Additionally, we should prioritize investments in modernizing and expanding our airports, easing immigration procedures, and implementing cutting-edge technology to expedite passport and visa processing. This will not only enhance the travel experience for Bangladeshis but also attract more tourists and business visitors.
By channeling resources into easing travel for Bangladeshi nationals and maintaining robust support systems, the government can maximize the potential of a stronger passport, ultimately contributing to a more prosperous and connected nation on the world stage.
