When it comes to fostering and maintaining bilateral relations, Bangladesh has always erred on the side of friendliness. It is an attitude that has propelled us to where we are, after all, as one of the most promising economies of the future.
Indeed, our outlook on foreign policy is one of the major reasons why our nation has been able to foster trade agreements with a whole swathe of nations, and Thailand has been an incredibly important partner to that end.
Which is why it is heartening to know that both Thailand and Bangladesh are now looking to further our already established relations by agreeing to explore the prospects of a free trade agreement (FTA).
Bangladesh has enjoyed a good relationship with Thailand for a long time by now, as the Southeast Asian nation is a major tourist destination for our citizens, coupled with the fact that Thai products are usually considered some of the most attractive offerings at our trade fairs.
By further exploring the possibility of an FTA, the two nations stand to fulfill the promise of a partnership that has been decades in the making -- an FTA would not only bolster existing trade relations between Bangladesh and Thailand, but it would open up new pathway to create manufacturing opportunities within our country, which would be a boon for all.
This is a relationship that our foreign ministry would do well to nurture well as Bangladesh inches ahead in realizing its middle income aspirations.
