The business climate worldwide has been on the receiving end of a massive shock, owing to external factors like the Russia-Ukraine war and post-pandemic side-effects.
To that end, it is only logical that Bangladesh will also suffer the consequences of said crises. However, it is shocking that other internal issues continue to play a major role in the stagnation of business in our country.
According to recent studies, factors such as corruption, poor infrastructure, and lack of financing are leading causes behind a lack of any notable progress in our business sphere.
While corruption on various levels has been a consistent concern in our country, experts opine that it is proving to be an even bigger disadvantage, as its rapid escalation across sectors is hindering how business is conducted and governed.
This is a direct contradiction to the kind of development we aspire for.
While global instability and its subsequent difficulties are out of our hands, it is a shame that we have not put in more of an effort to resolve the internal issues that are certainly in our control -- which has, in turn, intensified the damage they cause to our progress.
The relevant authorities need to immediately track down incidents of bribery and other forms of corruption in order to eliminate the perpetrators acting as a hindrance to our nation's growth.
Our business operations must be made to be carried out in line with legal and ethical guidelines, so as to ensure that the very foundation of our businesses does not crumble at the first sign of a global catastrophe.
Thorough and adequate long-term planning is also fundamental in preventing the devastating impacts that the current global unrest is expected to cause us.
We have made a name for ourselves as a country for our impressive and steady growth. We cannot let the malpractices and negligence of a mere few corrupt the system we have worked so hard to build.
The entire nation's future is on the line.
