The Covid-19 pandemic, despite the many ways it negatively impacted the world, also propelled Bangladesh to become a truly digitized version of itself as we were compelled to innovate across sectors -- which is very much in line with what we had envisioned our country to be.
As the world incorporates newer, more advanced technologies, it not only makes absolute sense for Bangladesh to also adopt a digital approach to advance further as a nation, given the current nature of the world and its trajectory, it is all but a necessity.
However, such reliance on digitization is also bound to bring about a number of drawbacks, with digital security being our topmost concern.
To that end, it is reassuring that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at a National Digital Security Council meeting on Thursday, acknowledged these concerns, and also discussed fitting solutions that we could adopt.
We could not agree more with the PM as she discussed the need to recognize and prepare for the negative aspects of digitization, and stressed on the fact that ensuring a secure and effective experience for all will require more research, education, and awareness on the matter.
As technology takes over almost all spheres of our lives, it will become increasingly difficult -- and counterproductive -- for us to ignore the drawbacks that come with it.
If we are to keep up with the rest of the world, however, it is absolutely vital that we take necessary measures now to increase research on the subject, and prepare the nation; technology will only become more and more ubiquitous, and we simply cannot reach our fullest potential without relying on it.
Ensuring digital security and improving the overall digital experience for all is the only way for us to fully reap the benefits of a digital Bangladesh.
