Bangladesh has demonstrated an incredible amount of resilience in the face of a number of ongoing global crises, and continues to make remarkable developmental growth.
And thus, that the World Bank -- which has been a major supporter of the country in its development projects -- acknowledges the evolution of the country further validates our efforts.
On Saturday, Martin Raiser, Vice President for the South Asia Region of the World Bank, shared his views on Bangladesh's economic progress preceding his recent visit to the country, and expressed his interest in discussing further plans of development.
It is, indeed, reassuring that our achievements as a nation are being recognized -- especially by key partners like the World Bank, which has been instrumental in our growth since our independence, providing loans and grants worth about $37 billion since then.
For a country like Bangladesh, which is only on the verge of graduating from its least developed country status, tackling massive obstacles such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the rising inflation, and the overall global economic uncertainty has been a feat that is nothing short of exemplary.
On top of that, the country has been hosting 1.1 million Rohingya refugees in a commendable act of humanitarian aid, while much of the international community has largely failed to support us.
Under these circumstances, acknowledgement -- and subsequent support -- is crucial for our nation to continue developing at its current pace, and realize its ambitions. We must persevere in our endeavours towards economic success, and attract more support along the way.
