As of this moment, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is in India, a stay that is expected to conclude on the eighth of this month.
To say India has been, and continues to be, one of Bangladesh’s greatest allies, would not be an understatement. From our very inception as a nation in 1971 to, over 50 years later now as we look to achieve incredible economic ambitions, India has remained a staunch supporter. This relationship has only strengthened over the past decade and a half, under the current regime with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the helm.
With her latest visit set to include important talks and agreements on cooperation on trade and energy, water sharing of common rivers which has remained an unfortunate point of contention, border management, dealing with the Rohingya issue, and cooperation in the field of defense, railway, and science and technology, this is an extremely important visit on the part of the PM, and indeed for Bangladesh as a whole.
Make no mistake about it though, any deals inked between the two nations are a win-win for both; while there may have been a time when Bangladesh was, unfairly or otherwise, criticized for being overly reliant on India, those days have long since passed. Therefore, we believe that the PM and her delegation will be keeping in mind the prosperity of her nation and her people when engaging in discussions and inking any deals.
Ultimately, as is being acknowledged across the board, the PM's latest visit will add to the long-standing friendship the nations have had for over five decades now. Along with resolving some much needed issues that both nations are currently undergoing as a result of the global climate, we can reasonably hope that the deals and conversations will assist both nations, and take this friendship to even greater heights.
