Our capital's continual development over the last decade or so has been nothing short of exemplary, with high rise buildings and impressive infrastructure in our mega cities to show for it.
However, as our capital city evolves in a certain way to cater to the residents' growing demands, it seems to be forfeiting a crucial aspect of any metropolis: Green spaces.
The fast-paced nature of the economic hub of a nation entails more concrete establishments, busier roads, and higher levels of pollution -- all of which make for a more unhealthy standard of living.
All of these factors also contribute directly to a rise in temperatures.
Under such circumstances, what we are in urgent need of are green spaces across the city to successfully overcome the hazards of living in concrete jungles.
Introducing greenery to various areas of the city can have a number of positive impacts: They can help purify the toxic air we breathe, while also reducing the intensity, and frequency, of heatwaves.
While greening up the cities has been discussed a number of times in the past, not much has been done yet to really implement a green plan. In this regard, the authorities hold the massive responsibility of not only taking the initiative, but also encouraging citizens to partake in a greener, more sustainable lifestyles.
Dedicated green spaces need to be established all over the cities in order to counter the damage being done currently by their absence. Unless immediate steps are taken, the living conditions in the city will only continue to deteriorate.
Infrastructural development is, without a doubt, an integral aspect of a nation's growth, and often comes at the cost of natural resources. However, for sustainable progress, we must adopt a green approach and restore the balance that has been lost.
