After two long years, 2022 was supposed to be the year that we could finally enjoy Eid-ul-Azha in all its traditions. But with the global emergence of a new variant of coronavirus and the local emergence of a sporadic but quickly spreading fourth wave, it looks like the safety measures that we had followed in the last two years have to be followed again this year.
As such, it is our duty to make sure that we celebrate this Eid responsibly and follow the safety protocols as much as possible so that this Eid doesn’t turn into a super-spreading occasion, and we lose our lives and livelihoods as a result.
We have to make sure that we maintain basic cleanliness and other hygiene-related protocols throughout the day. We especially have to maintain cleanliness while engaging in the holy act of Qurbani, making sure that blood and other excrements from the sacrificial animals are dumped and disposed of properly. Of course, the selfless spirit of the occasion should also instill in us the mentality of sacrifice and righteousness for the betterment of the country.
As such, given the current situation in our country, the simple steps we can take are as follows: Maintain safety protocols during this Eid, maintain cleanliness and discard the excrements of the animals properly, treat everyone respectfully, and make sure that this occasion of joy doesn't turn into an occasion of sorrow.
From everyone here at Dhaka Tribune, we wish you Eid Mubarak. May this Eid bring all the joys that your heart can desire.
