The education system in Bangladesh has met with some vast changes in recent years, marking a slow and steady progress towards becoming stronger overall.
While there have been numerous positive developments, it is important to remember the many aspects where the system is lacking, and how we must continue working towards any and all improvements necessary to ensure that our education system produces the kind of citizens that Bangladesh needs to truly make its mark on the global arena.
The education ministry has been taking some constructive measures to that end, such as introducing a new curriculum for primary and secondary school students, where students will not have to attend exams before third grade. This is certainly the right step forward, and promises to ease a lot of unnecessary pressure off of students and shift their education to a more learning-based approach.
However, we must not forget that this is the bare minimum, as it stands.
Creating a learning-based environment for students is merely the first step; we must ensure they also receive the appropriate care necessary to build a foundation for further development.
As such, our educators are undoubtedly the key players who can help shape young minds and realize their true potential, and should be empowered with the necessary resources by the administration. In this case, facilitating training programs for teachers -- like the recently launched “Esho Shikhi” program -- can provide proper guidelines as to what methods work best for students to learn effectively.
Bringing up the quality of education to where it needs to be will not only warrant brighter, more successful futures for our students individually, but will also enable them to collectively take the country forward on its quest to development.
