It is also important that we collect data related to Covid-19

Update : 17 Jul 2021, 02:14 AM

If the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it is that information is key when it comes to tackling the virus, as it not only helps us to understand the situation better, but act accordingly, allowing us to mobilize resources in a way that is both efficient and effective.

However, after a strict lockdown nationwide, and with Bangladesh registering more than 200 deaths related to Covid-19 on a daily basis, it is worrisome to note that we are showcasing older habits of misinformation, with the deaths of patients from Covid-like symptoms ignored.

As experts have continuously stated ever since the beginning of the pandemic, keeping track of all information related to Covid is of the utmost importance in order to get a full picture of the actual situation, and help us prepare better for the next wave, if and when it happens.

It is also important that we collect data related to Covid-19, and the more data we collect, the better will we be able to analyze the information and chart the progress of what has become a constantly evolving pandemic.

As such, it is imperative that health officials take the effort to test patients who died from Covid-like symptoms without confirmation as coronavirus patients, so as to ensure that the information we are collecting regarding death rates is one that is accurate and provides us a more complete understanding of the crisis nationwide.

This data will remain crucial in the coming days to further elevate our understanding of the pandemic and contribute to other studies such as contact-tracing to better chart the spread of the virus and understand where our resources are needed the most, where lockdowns have been most effective, and which areas require the most assistance in terms of dealing with the virus.
