Floods have hit again, and for the third time this year, large parts Sylhet and Moulvibazar are under water.
A most worrying aspect of these floods is the damage done to crops, and the possibility of a shortage of food as a result.
The government has done a commendable job so far in providing relief in flood-affected areas -- ruling party leaders and workers in the Sylhet area have been instructed to do all they can to help.
But the government must also look at the big picture, and prevent food prices from shooting up in this time.
Unfortunately, it is always the poor -- farmers and fishermen -- who are likely to be affected the most.
Averting a food crisis should be the highest priority now.
