One of our country’s more important roles in the global arena is our contribution to the UN peacekeeping missions. Even in the most dangerous of locations around the world, Bangladeshi peacekeepers have done tremendous work in ensuring peace and stability.
And it is heartening to see all of their fine work being recognized worldwide as well -- with some of UN peacekeeping’s highest officials lavishing them with praise.
And why not?
Not only is Bangladesh the second highest contributor of peacekeepers in the world, we are now the fifth highest contributor of female peacekeepers among all troop-and-police contributing countries -- which is not only a win for inclusivity, but also an example to the rest of the world.
Of course, as always, there is little room for complacency.
There is always a need for more, better training when it comes to the UN peacekeeping missions, to which end the government has called for stronger collaborations with the UN secretariat, member states, and other law enforcement-contributing countries.
The success of our peacekeepers relies not only on the quality of their work and the dedication with which they carry out their duties, but the strong moral values, effective motivation, and the discipline they exhibit as well.
Needless to say, they have made the country proud.
