On Thursday, members of Bangladesh’s 11th parliament took their oaths, ushering in a new era for the nation.
While there has been much debate and discussion leading up to the elections, and much will no doubt follow, what is more important for us now is to consider the future, and see that that we do right by the people who have elected their respective MPs to office.
The new parliament promises to sustain the massive growth Bangladesh has experienced over the last decade, while also assuring change that will make the lives of the people better.
It is time to focus on the challenges that we will face in the coming years, and ensure that there is cooperation between different parties and members of parliament, rather than continue an acrimonious relationship.
At the end of the day, a nation is bigger than individuals and parties, and is built on the backs of the people who call this nation their home.
While there will no doubt remain differences in opinion with regards to the major issues which still continue to plague the country, constructive solutions can be discovered through prioritizing sectors such as education, health care, research, which, to a great extent, Bangladesh has been focusing on over the last decade or so.
Indeed, moving forward, coordination, cooperation, and planning will remain key to Bangladesh’s continued success, and we have high hopes with regards to the ruling party’s third consecutive term in office.
Let’s put this democracy to work, and work towards fulfilling the Bangladeshi potential.
