Azmeer Hossain’s surreal and abstract art

A 14 day solo exhibition by New York based artist Azmeer Hossain titled “Emotion Recollected in Tranquillity” is on display at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts. The 59 paintings displayed in the gallery wall are fascinating for the art enthusiasts who love landscapes and abstraction in paintings. It started from May 3 and will continue till May 16, from 12pm to 8 pm.

Azmeer Hossain is one of a kind Artist who specialises in water colour, mixed media, collograph and collage. During his stay in New York, he has spent a long time by the Venice Beach of Conny Island. Therefore, his landscapes portray the vastness of the sea and the sky is engulfed in opaque blue and crimson red, also, many minimal objects are seen in his paintings that has semblance to New York city. In the series “Looking through the mind’s eye,” he has used wood, metal wire, machine parts of electrical goods for creating texture. The amber coloured compositions are square shaped which will definitely remind us of a closed door. As the artist says, “We don’t know what is on the other side of the door, I tried to open it and found these images.” The use of water colour and mixed media creating monochromic layer will attract artists as well as viewers.

During his study in Charukola, Azmeer went to Montreal and then moved to the “Art Capital” New York. He took 3 drawing courses under artist Jhon Rugery from School of Visual Arts.

The exhibition was inaugurated by MP Reza Ali. Special guests were Honourable Minister and cultural personality Asaduzzaman Noor. The artist himself and Director of Bengal Gallery Subir Chowdhury also delivered speech on the occasion.
