The inter-university Bangla debate of “DIUDC National Debate Festival,” patronised by Daffodil International University (DIU) and organised by Daffodil International University Debating Club (DIUDC) began yesterday at the DIU auditorium in Sobhanbag, Dhanmondi.
The debate is the third segment of the festival which will end on February 6. The first two segments, the inter-club English debate and the inter-school Bangla debate was held last month.
This edition is the fourth national debate festival organised by DIUDC, with this year's slogan being “Chokhe nilakash, bukey bishash, paye urbor polli.” The competition is divided into four segments which are titled as the four glorious eras of Bangla.
The inter-club English debate is titled as “Dhrupodi Era,” the inter-school Bangla debate as “Pal Era,” the inter-university Bangla debate as “Boidik Era” and the inter-college Bangla debate is called “Mourjo Era.”
The finals of the four debates are scheduled to take place at the Ashulia campus of DIU in Savar on February 13.
The champions and runners-up of each segment will be awarded with trophies and certificates while the best debaters of each final and debaters of the tournament in each segment will be recognised with crests and certificates.
Around 130 schools, colleges and universities are taking part in this festival. The debates will be held on issues like, good governance, cultural exchange, women empowerment, human trafficking, human rights, climate change, food security, philosophy, national and world politics, eliminating child abuse and the right to information.
In each segment, the teams will have to undergo five preliminary rounds with the best eight ones qualifying for the quarter finals. Four winning teams would then participate in the semis and the two victors of each debate will fight against each other in the finals, to be crowned as the best team from each era.
