Nerd nails

Update : 09 Jun 2017, 06:36 PM
Are you tired of painting your nails the usual, boring old colours, and want to try something different? Sure, there's plenty of ideas on the Internet, but how about something that's a bit more you? For all the fangirls out there, here are a few easy suggestions on how to get your geek on when trying out some nail art.

Silly for Stormtroopers

grid-cell-31422-1436207532-5This is genuinely one of the easiest nail art ever to try out but the end result looks amazing. Just coat your nails with some white polish, then use black to paint the face and you have yourself a stormtrooper! In case you want to try other ¬Star Wars characters, R2D2 and more recently BB-8 is also a fan favourite for the nail art lovers, since their boxish shapes make them ideal for nail painting. There are plenty of tutorials available online for the more adventurous Star Wars geeks.

'You are better at dying'

enhanced-15258-1394535146-1If you haven't already realised, this writer is a huge Whovian, and what better way to pay tribute to the one of the most beloved but also underrated sci-fi shows ever than painting its baddies? It's way easier to paint a Cyberman and Dalek than the TARDIS or the Doctor himself from Doctor Who, just make sure you have some silver and golden polish. Use silver for the Cyberman design, and all you have to do is use black to draw in the eyes and mouth. If you have something in gray even better, because then you can draw in the metallic cheeks. The Daleks are a bit trickier – paint the base golden, then use yellow for the knobby bits and black for the rest of the detail. Just make sure you have the right shade of blue for the eye.

Holy rusted nails, Batman!

bat-man-nail-art-24If you're a fan of the caped crusader, then you have to paint the bat signal on your nails. If you're too lazy to do both, why not just do the proper black bat against yellow on just one nail only, and fill in the rest with an outline of the bat helmet? If you're a fan of the classic Adam West series, try doing a gray background instead, and using yellow and back to alternate between drawing the bat signal, and just painting colours of the classic Batman costume.

I do solemnly swear to make good nail art

cfd8f71e729c36ff137218ee020ac227If you're a Potterhead, then you have the opportunity to try something incredibly simple but obviously very cool – paint a tribute to the Boy Who Lived on your nails. Just use white as the base colour, and use a thin, black brush to paint in the glasses and of course, the lightning shaped scar. If this is a bit too simple for you, try alternating it with the classic scarlet and gold colours of Gryffindor to add that extra brightness.

This one is radical, dude

grid-cell-18114-1436201178-19If you're a 90s kid, which from my own biased position I hope you are, then you probably grew up with the fun-loving, pizza-guzzling teenage mutant ninja turtles. And now you can have them on your nails too. You need to make sure you have the right colours for all the turtles though. Colour the base turtle green, but when you're doing their ninja masks, make sure you paint a horizontal white line. On that, put the different colours for Leo, Don, Raph and Michael and draw the eyes on afterwards.
