Men all around the world keep up with this trend every November. The purpose behind not shaving your beard or getting a haircut is simply to raise awareness. Overgrown beards and facial hair can be a good conversation starter where the person on the other end gets to know about why you have not been grooming yourself.
The ones amongst us who are suffering from cancer often end up losing hair. This idea started off with a vision to embrace our hair and let it grow. You will end up saving a lot of money from not getting a haircut or trimming/shaving your beard. The purpose is to donate that money for the treatment of people suffering from cancer and also to promote awareness for cancer prevention and research.
“No Shave November is just like Valentine’s Day, it’s made by people who want to justify their bearded look and there’s nothing wrong with that. It is pretty much No Shave the whole year for me, I guess I like it this way. I appreciate the initiative Beard Society Of Bangladesh has taken for No Shave November. To all the bearded men: make sure to use a straw when you drink. Peace,” said Jon Kabir, Director of Business Development at Roebuck Communications.
There are many people, communities, organizations working for this generous purpose. Similarly, Beard Society Of Bangladesh, the first beard community based in Dhaka has also been putting in efforts to raise awareness and help ones in need. 
This community consists of bearded members and aspiring beards alike. The group of bearded men was founded in January 2016 by the handsome brothers Shahbaz Lohan (President) and Syed Md Farhan (Vice-President). They conducted ‘No Shave November’ last year at Dhaka Shishu Hospital. The kids suffering from leukemia require constant blood donation.The group sourced donors for the children.Parallel to that, they tried their best to cheer up the young souls with toys, colouring books, colour pencils, etc.
“We, Beard Society Of Bangladesh, were actively involved in charity work. We provided and donated blood for leukemia patients in the last six months on a constant basis. Now, all we can say is that we encountered a good response, and The Beard Society, was successful throughout this activity,” said Tawsif Alam Khan, Founder and Managing Director of Vertical Horizon.
This year, Beard Society Of Bangladesh is working on raising funds for a 10th grader-- Irin Nahar Swarna who is suffering from cancer and is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. The community has been collecting donations within themselves and from friends and family. The treatment is expensive and Swarna’s family would really 
appreciate anyone who is willing to help her. Irin went to Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore for treatment but she had to come back because of the costly treatment. The local doctors here prescribed some oral medicines for the time being until she continues her treatment at CMC.
Beard Society Of Bangladesh also plans to engage themselves with social issues and raise awareness in general throughout the country. These siblings started off with a passion for growing a healthy beard and now are moderating a group of more than 37,000 people. Additionally, they sell men’s facial care products online. There are six pillars holding this community together: Shahbaz Lohan, Syed Md Farhan, Morshedul Haque Khan, Nafe Kibria, Ashik un Nabi and Atay Rabbi Chisti. Their dedication towards supporting Irin has helped her a lot so far but still isn’t enough to get her the treatment she needs. Beard Society Of Bangladesh is looking forward to receiving donations for Irin and many other Irins going through the same situation.
