For the time being, Amazon Go only has one location in the entire world, situated in Seattle, Washington. Like most experts claim, if their plan pans out, we’ll actually start to see a radical change in how we shop at physical stores nationwide. Keep in mind, this is only the birthing stages of this new concept, but it paints a pretty picture on what to expect in the future. The supermarket sized Go store may only have a maximum of 10 employees for now. But Amazon states they are aiming for a max of only six employees per shift, relying more on their robotic automation and software system.
The New York Post reports that the company plans to build two-story layouts for future Go supermarkets, which will require only three to 10 employees per shift to keep things running smoothly. The report also states that one employee can be stocking shelves, another can act as a manager for guest services, which include the duty of signing up customers for Amazon Fresh grocery delivery. Another two additional employees could be manning the drive through windows, while another couple co-workers can assist the robotic grocery-bagging machines. The amount of employees can be thinned down depending on the time of day. As you can see, the company is quite serious on changing the way we shop.
This recent update follows some inaccurate report by the Wall Street Journal, claiming Amazon was planning to open more than 2,000 Amazon Go locations nationwide. In reality and fact, they are still dealing with adjustments and improvements towards the overall scheme of things. But the fact that Amazon has been able to establish their first location in the state of Washington gives way to anew trend of shopping. And above all, a very convenient way of shopping for consumers and a cost-effective branch of business for companies like Amazon.
