Looking at the cakes, you can tell they are a work of art. To make such a cake look so good that you would rather stare at it than eat it, makes one presume that Adeeba has professional training. She is actually a self-taught dessert artist. The Baking Pit grew out of a hobby of uploading her dessert art experiments.
“If you look at the pictures from 2013, you can tell the difference and that I was quite an amateur,” says Adeeba of her growth. However, with every order she received, she remained determined to improve the presentation of her cakes. Relentless practice is what helped her to perfect her flavours and the details.
We asked Adeeba what really inspired her to start this venture. “Honestly, the decision was very random,” said Adeeba, mentioning that it was a hobby that acted as a getaway from the subject she was majoring in during her undergrad. Interestingly, no one in her family ever baked, not even her mother. However, since a very young age, she loved arts, crafts and baking. While she was putting her heart into the things she loved, she ended up merging the three and thus her cakes became a work of art.
Without any long term vision, Adeeba thought of uploading pictures of her cakes and she was amazed to see people’s interest in placing orders. That’s when she considered taking the business seriously. Over the years, with much practice, Adeeba has now mastered the art of making luxury fondant cakes.
Working as a performance manager at Daraz and getting married has not stopped Adeeba from doing what she is most passionate about. Her usual days go by working at the office, coming home and working on her orders till midnight or even 4am to satisfy both the client and herself. In the midst of all these, one must wonder how she balances it all and whether it affects any of her work. “I try to take limited orders. Even when I’m taking orders, I usually take them eight months in advance so that I am able to schedule the time and balance all my work accordingly,” said Adeeba. Besides her family and in-laws supporting her throughout the journey, her father has been her biggest pillar of support. From ensuring cakes to be delivered safely from door to door, her father has always been there beside her to make this journey a perfect one.
