Mariye is a designer brand formed in 2016 with a passion towards designing and creativity. Initially, the brand started offering customized bridal wear and wedding formals, with an extended line of semi-formals in the year 2019. All the pieces for this brand are proudly hand-made in Bangladesh.
Nusaiba Islam, founder and designer of Mariye, is a BBA graduate from North South University. She gave up her corporate job and stable monthly income to pursue her dream of becoming a designer. By going against the norms of being a corporate employee, and on her journey to becoming a female entrepreneur, Nusaiba faced a lot of challenges from both her family and the society.
Inspired by the sub-continental traditional designs, Mariye started their journey with an emphasis on the art of hand embroidery. The brand focuses mainly on the local craftmanship of the Bangladeshi “karigars/artisans”. The skills required for creating extremely intricate designs solely by hand on plain fabric are often ignored. Mariye’s vision is to highlight the hidden talents of our own country in front of the world.
All the outfits are hand embroidered using materials like sequins, pearls, stones, dabka and metallic thread on rich, luxe fabrics like georgette, silk, muslin and velvet.
