Eating right

Feed Me delivers organically prepared, nutritious and healthy meals to reach your doorsteps

Update : 06 Aug 2019, 05:14 PM

Healthy eating is now seen as a chore in itself. Undoubtedly, we have all, at some point, been determined to eat healthy. But let’s face it: a bowl of greens, no matter how well seasoned, has never been able to compete with the oh-so-unhealthy fast food our taste buds can’t forget. Breaking the misconception that clean eating requires giving up on flavours, Feed Me offers sets of nutritious meals to stir up a positive change in your diet plan as well as your taste buds.

Zarin Rashid, the sole owner of Feed Me, started the venture with the motive to provide the best quality organic food in the form of breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, using fresh ingredients such as avocados, oatmeal, olive oil and almond milk. They offer nutritious meal packages for one day to a monthly subscription. But if the clean and healthy eating plan by Feed Me simply means cutting off a lot of carbs, excessive spices, sugar and oil, does it mean it caters to a specific diet plan? And how is this strict meal plan any different from the keto diet? These are the questions that initially come to mind while looking at the menu. In Zarin’s own words: “Keto is a diet that is designed for a specific kind of people. It can be followed for a certain period of time, but is not healthy for the long run.” Feed Me is not made for any specific diet plan; rather, it is designed for people who want to have more wholesome meals. With the intention to make meals for all, Zarin herself tries to taste all the delicious recipes designed by Feed Me’s certified nutritionist, Ilkay Deniyeci from Toronto.

How the plan developed

The plan of constructing meal plans started back in 2017, when Zarin came back to Bangladesh from Toronto and fell severely ill, due to the consumption of meals with an unbalanced proportion of oil and spices. Back in Canada, for two years straight, Zarin had only consumed nutritional and wholesome meals that she would prepare for herself. Currently in Dhaka, Zarin is a fitness consultant at Amra Active, head of research and development in TRZ Garments, and makes her own designs with a degree in fashion designing that she obtained in Canada. The list of activities Zarin is involved in seems endless. She is athletic and you will often find her working out at the gym, playing soccer or golf. Aside from all these activities, health, however, is her first priority. As the pro-active person that she is, Zarin needed to find the suitable food to live healthy again. Since such meals were not properly made or found, Zarin was constantly on the lookout for the right ingredients. As she fed herself the nutrition her body required, doing so for others seemed like the next best step. Zarin, then formed her new team: from partnering with a nutritionist, to training chefs, to looking for all the organic ingredients. And so, Feed Me was born.

Packages

The one-day package consists of four meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to eat in between, which costs Tk1,500, and the monthly subscription is priced at Tk32,000. Their menus are set weekly. This way, the same meals are not repeated in the next two days. Feed Me provides an array of options on the menu such as banana protein pancakes, vegan overnight oats, chicken curry with coconut milk, chicken pea rice and spinach soup, and other fusion items.

Taste test

As a devoted junk eater, I decided to turn the table for myself and start eating clean. Learning about Feed Me’s meals was a baby step for me to commit to something very new. Upon interviewing this new venture, I got the chance to try out their Tuesday menu, and here’s my verdict. Starting with the Oatmeal Protein Cookies with nuts as snacks -- the cookie was soft and moist. It had the perfect flavour of oatmeal, mixed with the sweet taste of the chocolate mousse. All the items were light, but surprisingly filling. Lunch included a Spicy Chicken & Sweet Potato Bowl with avocado and broccoli. The chicken was not unbearably spicy, despite the name suggesting otherwise -- which was an absolute delight, as I am not a fan of anything spicy. Another misconception I always had is that broccoli always tastes bitter. When I, begrudgingly, took the first bite it surprisingly tasted rather tender and sweet. It was well boiled and indeed appetizing. Lastly, for dinner, I had Tomato Salsa Shrimp Rice. The sauce was not too overpowering. The well-cooked shrimps tossed in the rice with mint leaves added great flavor, and completed the meal perfectly.

Feed Me can be your go-to if you are conscious of your health and need to make changes in your dietary plan. If you are always on the go and don’t have the time to prepare meals for yourself, Feed Me is here to aid you.
