Bengal gallery of fine arts has arranged a group print exhibition by the artists of Dhaka Printmakers titled “Awakening” in Bengal Shilpalaya. The exhibition will continue till Wednesday.
The participating artists are: Rokeya Sultana, Ahemd Nazir, Rafi Haq, Rashid Amin and Mustafa Zaman. This is the fourth exhibition of the group which has already proved its substantial cognition and contribution in the modern day art scenario of Bangladesh.
The exhibition is a cutting edge display in every aspect regarding art.
The five participant artist from the printmaker’s group has already established their own signature style and distinguished philosophy in their thought and its representation through art.
The unique visual feature of the exhibition is the variation of technique applied by the artists, according to their own forte and gradation of line, form and colour. The 45 prints in display are a visual and thought provoking treat for the art lovers and critique.
Mustafa Zaman is probably the most thematic artist of modern art in the country. He has his “one of a kind” sense of visualisation. His deep philosophical thinking has made him come up with works like “Parallel Lives Fading into Oblivion” in which he has tried to contemplate the coexistence of human and animal by diminishing the hierarchy of species between them. Musta Zaman said: “I had the intention to establish the semiotic value of reading signs as a language and tried to create a relation between them.” He has used graphical C-print technique in his work.
Rokeya Sultana is a renowned artist and inventor of the unique pressure print technique in print making. Recently she has adapted a new method called relief reduction which has enhanced her depth in composition.
Ahmed Nazir is well known for his relentless tendency of experimentation in print making. In every show he comes up with something new, which is not only unique in subject but also in technique. In the recent show, he has used computer graphics by manipulating images.
There are 10 works of Rafi Haq - a series called “Journey of Empty World.” He has used oil on paper which is a noteworthy feature of the show. By using his signature technique of lithograph, the artist has created playful tableau of colours.
Rashid Amin mostly uses colours of darker hue. His fondness and fineness use of dark and deep black lines always creates a non geometric pattern in the surface. It is mostly created by burnt amber (brown) and gradation of the same colour. Rashid Amin’s works are, in a way, a visual diary of a painter.
