Five people were gunned down in an attack near Jameel Shaheed Chowk along Kashmir Road in the precincts of People’s Colony of Gujranwala city on Wednesday.
The police stated that the motive behind the shooting was an old enmity.
Reports said that a known political figure of PP 59 Gujranwala, Rana Iftikhar, of Jhangi village, was returning home after attending a court hearing in Gujranwala city.
As soon as his car reached along Kashmir Road, four people riding two motorbikes ambushed the car with indiscriminate firing, killing Iftikhar, his driver Boota, and three guards - Abu Sufian, Rajab, and Qasib. The assailants fled the scene.
The bodies were shifted to the district headquarters hospital. Doctors later conducted the autopsy, and the bodies were handed over to the heirs.
A spokesman for Gujranwala police stated that a case had been registered against the suspects belonging to the Mehar group, a rival party of the deceased Rana Iftikhar.
The deceased Iftikhar used to contest the union council chairman elections, and he had announced contesting the next elections from PP 59.
