A three-day “Bangladesh International Tourism Fair (BITF)-2014” begins tomorrow in the capital to build tourism linkage among the South-East Asian countries.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon is scheduled to inaugurate the fair as chief guest, while FBCCI President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed will attend as special guest.
Rezaul Ekram, executive director of Bangladesh Foundation for Tourism Development (BFTD), made the announcement at a press conference held at a city hotel yesterday.
The press conference was attended, among others, by HM Hakim Ali, president of BFTD, MA Motin, chairman of Hotel Holiday Villa, and Suman Talukder, senior vice president of Inbound Tour Operators Association.
BFTD and Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) in collaboration with Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry, Bangladesh Tourism Board, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Bangladesh Inbound Tour Operators Association and Bangladesh International Hotels Association will organise the expo at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.
The fair will remain open for the visitors from 10am to 8pm during the fair with an entry fee of Tk20 per person.
In the expo, there will have 140 stalls where participants from India, Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Myanmar will participate along with the host Bangladesh. Cambodia will take part in this expo for the first time.
Participants include travel agents, tour operators, hotels and resorts, card sellers, hospitals, institutions, National Tourism Organisations (NTOs), airlines, financial institutions, online sellers and other tourism service providers.
A seminar on “Sub-regional tourism circuit, linking South East Asia” will also be held to focus on the prospects of the tourism sector of this region. Representatives from Bhutan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Indian states of Meghalaya, Asam and Tripura will attend the seminar to exchange their views on the bright prospect of tourism.
