7 more pulled out alive as rain hits rescue efforts

Update : 27 Apr 2013, 05:38 AM

Rescuers at Savar have pulled out seven more people from one point in the debris of the collapsed Rana Plaza Saturday morning.

They have been immediately rushed to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the Savar Cantonment.

Two other points have been identified in the rubble of the collapsed Rana Plaza where at least 24 are believed to be still alive.

Rescuers said 23 of them took shelter in a bathroom on the third floor when the building began falling down.

Heavy rain hits rescue efforts

Meanwhile, heavy downpour accompanied by gusty wind has badly affected the rescue efforts.

Dark and heavy clouds have also cut down visibility, resulting in the fact that rescuers are finding it really hard to carry on with their task.

Rescuers told our reporter that the passages leading to the bottom of the debris have become slippery from rain.

Firefighters fear that the heavy rain might trigger another slide and add to the death toll which stood at 340 until last updates arrived.
