Six more garment workers were rescued around 1:30pm today after hours of exhaustive efforts by fire service and locals, breathing new life into the rescue operation on its third day amid concerns that time is running out for those trapped in the collapsed Rana Plaza in Savar.
Of the rescued, there were four women and two man – all were moved to the hospital immediately by ambulance.
The survivors said seven to eight more people are still trapped in the south-east part of the building, who, they said, also appealed to save their lives.
A rescue effort is already underway.
Meanwhile, army personnel are drilling through the wall of the northern part of the building to recover the bodies of some 50 people believed to be dead.
Besides, another team of rescuers is trying to get into the underground garage where they hope to salvage as many as 20 people alive.
So far, at least 500 people have been enlisted as missing and the number may further increase, office-in-charge of Savar thana Ashrafuzzaman told Dhaka Tribune.
According to a correspondent of Dhaka Tribune, relatives of the missing people were found anxiously roaming around with photos and contact details of their near and dear ones and checking with security personnel on the scene.
Ashrafuzzaman said, 294 bodies were recovered so far and 262 of them were handed over to their family.
