The study gathered data by monitoring traffic on the website during 2016 and found textile manufacturing to be the leading industry offering the greatest job opportunities online.
This is unsurprising, since the garment sector, representing 13% of total jobs posted on the platform, has been a main GDP contributor of Bangladesh since the 1990s.
Roles in management placed first under the categories of most vacancies online in 2016 as well as most in-demand by job seekers, representing 11% of total applications sent through the portal.
However, engineering related jobs were the most looked for on the site, showing a disparity between the professional aims of job seekers and vacancies in the market.
Country Manager of everjobs Bangladesh Devendra Singh said: “2016 was a good year for job seekers with new job opportunities all over Bangladesh. While the manufacturing industry still leads the market and interest in management is rapidly increasing, we are starting to identify other industries and job categories, such as those related to Information Technology, that play an important role in employment in Bangladesh.”
Heavy investment in industries is a key factor that has been identified in leading the recent growth in manufacturing vacancies. This coupled with a rise in the number of graduates from engineering backgrounds are set to build Bangladesh’s export future.
