‘Self Protect’ app launched in Meherpur

A mobile based public safety app was launched at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Meherpur on Sunday. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Meherpur Parimal Singha inaugurated the mobile app. Meherpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Anisur Rahman, Additional SP (circle) Mostafizur Rahman, UNO of Gangni Upazila Bishnupada Pal, and UNO of Mujibnagar Upazila Nahida Akter were present, among others. The app, called ‘Self Protect,’ was developed by Saddam Hossain of Meherpur. DC Parimal said: “This app will play an important role in public safety. We will conduct campaigns on its usability and advantage to schools and colleges.” The SP of Meherpur said: “Saddam is from Meherpur and he has taken this important initiative for public safety, which is commendable. By using this app the user can instantly reach the police whenever necessary.” Saddam Hossain said: “The people of Meherpur can easily get help from police by using this app. The crime rate will decrease a lot when the app becomes fully functional.”

Way to use the app

A person can easily contact police, friends and family and let them know his/her coordinates by simply pressing the power button of their phone 3-4 times. It will also send an SOS (Save Our Souls) message at the same time. The app can track lost phones, and has important phone numbers and addresses such as that of police and fire services pre-installed. This app is currently available on the Google Play Store and the Self Protect website.
