Autumn Calling

Update : 11 Oct 2015, 01:23 PM

Yes, we're well aware of the fact that it's mid-October and still feels like the sticky grossness of August. But while we pace in front of the thermostat, willing the mercury to drop so we can start trotting out our fabulous cold weather layers, there's no reason why we can't incorporate a few weather-friendly fall trends, particularly at work.

Oxblood and awesome

2015 is the year of Marsala. This beautiful, rich red shade has enjoyed a fair amount of popularity, and this isn't about to die down just yet. For the office, though, its darker cousin oxblood holds more promise. A deep oxblood messenger bag or skinny belt, or a blazer in that shade, thrown over your boardroom-to-party kameez can give your outfit an instant update. If you're planning a full ensemble (be it a suit set or a long dress), be sure to keep your accessories neutral.

Plaid perfection

There's nothing like plaid to put you in the mood for early sunsets and road trips. This is a pretty casual print, but no reason why you can't bring it to work by layering it under a sensible blazer (or drapey kimono for more comfortable commutes). To add an extra touch of serious to your long plaid kurti/shirt, is to skip the jeans and reach for some tailored pants. Once the weather gets a little cooler, you can wear your plaid in the form of a seriously badass trenchcoat.

Playing with proportions

The combination of intermittent drizzles and days of humidity make for tricky commutes to work. You could do what everyone else is doing and roll your shalwar up and bring out the sponge sandals, or you could opt for capris, short leggings, and gaucho pants, and pair them with ankle booties. All of the above work with kameezes of varying lengths, so long as they fit like they should.
