A get-together of Stamford University media professionals was held on Thursday at the university's Siddheshwari campus in the capital.
Farhanaaz Feroze, chairman of the board of trustees of the university, attended the program as the chief guest which was presided over by Prof Quazi Abdul Mannan, chairman of the Journalism and Media Studies Department.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university Prof Younus Mia, and Registrar Abdul Matin were present in the program as special guests.
Farhanaaz Feroze articulated that media is a challenging profession, where competition is increasing day by day.
“Our goal is to prepare students for that competition. Stamford University is always providing students with opportunities to gain real-life experience through up-to-date education, technical skills, and hands-on training.”
"This get-together marks a great initiative to close the gap with our alumni. We want to create an atmosphere where you feel connected to us. We want you to know that we are here for you,” she added.
Pro VC Prof Md Younus Mia remarked that the present media in Bangladesh is predominantly operated by alumni of Stamford University.
“I consider this to be a significant achievement and a matter of pride for us.”
in the program, former Stamford University students working in various key positions in the media industry in Bangladesh shared their career experiences and offered guidance to present students.
The former students said that to survive in the competitive media environment, one must be proficient in objective journalism, the use of technology, investigative skills, and multimedia reporting.
They added: "The media is changing rapidly, so it is not only important to know how to gather news, but also how to present it."
Prof. Abdul Mannan said: "This is not the occasion to make speeches; this is the occasion to renew our relationship. We want to increase our relationship with the students."
Proctor Mrityunjoy Acharjee, associate professor of Journalism and Media Studies Mosharraf Hossain Mamun, assistant professor Samia Asadi, assistant professor Tania Sultana, assistant professor Shabnam Jannat, and teachers, officials, and students of various departments of the university were also present at the program.
