A delegation of CARE Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Bangabhaban on October 6.

The delegation was led by Earl R Miller, former US ambassador to Bangladesh and currently senior strategic adviser, CARE Bangladesh, and Ram Das, country director, CARE Bangladesh, said President's press secretary Md Sarwar Alam.

During the visit, Ram Das shared an overview of CARE’s journey in Bangladesh, which began in 1949.

Since then, CARE Bangladesh has been contributing to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh, including the post liberation war reconstruction, which included the construction of over 85,000 kilometers of rural roads for improved connectivity, while creating employment opportunities for thousands.

Over the following seven decades, CARE gradually expanded into food security and agriculture, health and nutrition, education, women’s economic empowerment, disaster preparedness, climate resilience and women workers skills and well-being in the readymade garment sector.

In the coming days, CARE will strongly focus on agriculture and food security, youth skilling and entrepreneurship and climate resilience.

The President recalled CARE Bangladesh as a popular name in the country and expressed his appreciation for the decades of work in socio-economic development of the country.

He also urged the organization to expand the activities further in the coming days.

Secretaries and senior officials of the President’s Office were present during the meeting.
