Dear students,
So, here’s the deal – life in the student lane is quite the rollercoaster, isn’t it? While I may not be an expert, these are some pieces of advice I would have benefitted from if I had gotten them while starting high school.
Firstly, embrace your studies with curiosity and passion. You tend to focus a lot on grades – I get it, it is important for your future. But learning is so much beyond grades. It is about soaking up knowledge like a sponge. Find subjects that light a fire in yourself and dive into them headfirst. Trust me, the learning itself is where the real magic happens.
The only thing that will help you get through high school smoothly is friendship. I am speaking from experience here. Friends are like peanut butter to your jelly. Surround yourself with good people who lift you up and have your back. But don’t be afraid to mix up your social circle either. You never know where you’ll find your next best friend.
Now let's come to life off-campus. It's a seriously perplexing time as your mind and body are both developing so sometimes you want to go out with your friends and other times you just want to put on pajamas and binge-watch a show for the millionth time in bed. So listen to your body if you're feeling worn out, it's okay to take a break.
But just remember this is the time to work hard to actually ensure a better tomorrow for yourself because if you don't study now, once you are done with high school, you will have nothing but regrets.
Don't make the same mistake as me and be hard on yourself. These are your years of goof-ups, growth, learning and unlearning. Focus on self-love, pursue your passions outside the class and cultivate interests in extra-curricular activities because that really helps you later on in life.
I feel that no one really understands the stress, confusion, excitement, and even fear that high school students have to deal with unless they go there themselves. I mean, high school can be such a rewarding experience but sometimes it can take quite a toll on you. So it is up to you to enjoy your time productively while you are here.
Say no to these three things as they really cut down on your productivity, hinder your personal development and paralyze you with fear of failure: procrastination, overthinking and ignoring self-care.
So, buckle up and enjoy the ride, my friends. These years are all about getting to know the awesome person you’re becoming.
Cheers to making the most of it!
