Nure Alam Siddiqui, a wartime student leader, was buried on Wednesday after funeral procedures in Jhenaidah and Dhaka.
The namaz-e-janaza of Siddiqui, convener of Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangram Parishad, was held in Jhenaidah on Wednesday. Later another janaza was held in Dhaka.
People from all walks of life in Jhenaidah paid their respects to Siddiqui, a close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Thousands of people gathered at the Government Boys' High School to catch a glimpse of him for the last time.
His body was brought to the school ground in the city by a helicopter for the namaz-e-janaza at his birthplace Jhenaidah from Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
District Awami League President Abdul Hai, Deputy Commissioner Monira Begum, Superintendent of Police Ashikur Rahman, Zila Parishad Chairman Harun-or-Rashid, District BNP President Advocate Abdul Majid, Freedom Fighters Makbul Hossain and Dr Azizur Rahman and leaders of political, social and cultural organisations were present at the janaza.

After the namaz-e-janaza, his body was taken to Dhaka again from Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Stadium in the city. His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Azad Mosque in the capital's Gulshan.
Later, he was buried on the premises of his own mosque in Savar.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in the capital on Wednesday morning. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and a host of relatives and friends.
Siddiqui played an active role in all the political activities of the time, including participation in the six-point movement, the 11-point movement, and the Language Movement. He was elected MP from Jessore-2 constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in the first parliamentary election of 1973.
He contested from Jhenaidah-2 constituency as a candidate of the Awami League in 1996 and 2001.
