Mamunur Rashid of the Daily Observer and Alamgir Hossain of Daily Shomoyer Alo have been elected as the new president and general secretary of the Defense Journalists Association of Bangladesh (DJAB) for two years.
Nazrul Islam Mithu, chief election commissioner DJAB Election Steering Committee and president of Dhaka Reporters' Unity, officially announced the names of the newly-elected members at a restaurant in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
The DJAB is an organization of reporters, who have been covering military affairs and defence-related news in Bangladesh since 2014.
The other members of the 13-member DJAB Executive Committee are Jahangir Alam of UNB as vice president, Tariqul Islam Masum of Chanel-I as joint general secretary, Jamal Uddin of Daily Bangladesh as finance secretary, Ahmed Ullah of the Daily Sun as organizing secretary, Ismail Hossain Emu of Daily Amader Shomoy.com as office secretary, Saif Bablu of Daily Sangbad as publicity and publication secretary, Sajjad Mahmud Khan of Daily Amader Shomoy as training and research secretary, Kamal Hossain Talukder of Bdnews24.com as sports and cultural secretary and the three executive members are Masood Karim of Daily Jugantor, Miraj Mizu of Desh TV and Ali Asif Shawon of the Dhaka Tribune.
Before the election, Abul Khair of Daily Ittefaq, the outgoing president of the DJAB, presided over the Annual General Meeting where the director of the Inter-Service Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) Lt Col Abdullah Ibn Zaid and other officials of the armed forces were present.
Dhaka Journalist Union’s General Secretary Akhter Hossain and General Secretary of the Crime Reporter’s Association of Bangladesh Asaduzzaman Biku assisted Nazrul Islam Mithu as election commissionaire.
