Legendary film director Azizur Rahman passed away at a hospital in Canada on Monday night. He was 82.
Azizur breathed his last around 11.30pm (Bangladesh time) on Monday, reports UNB quoting Sohanur Rahman Sohan, president of Bangladesh Film Directors Association.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud expressed profound shock and sorrow at his death, reports BSS.
In a message of condolence, he prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to bereaved family.
Hasan, also the ruling Awami League joint general secretary, said Azizur Rahman emerged as film director by directing heritage-oriented movie 'Saiful Mulok Badiuzzaman" on Mymensingh folk ballads.
Azizur Rahman who directed many renowned films including 'Chhutir Ghonta' will remain alive for his outstanding works.
Ashikkhito, Matir Ghor, Janata Express, Sampanwala, Daktar Bari, Gormil, and Samadhan are among over 50 films he directed.
Azizur began his career as an assistant to director Ehtesham in 1958 for the film 'Ee Desh Tomar Amar'. His first film 'Saiful Mulok Badiuzzaman' was released in 1967.
He directed as many as 58 films. And he is celebrated for works like “Chhutir Ghonta,” “Ashikkhito,” “Matir Ghor,” “Janata Express,” “Sampanwala,” “Daktar Bari,” “Gormil,” and “Samadhan.”
Azizur was born on 10 October, 1939, in the Santahar area of Bogura's Adamdighi Upazila.
