The northern districts of Naogaon and Thakurgaon are set to have public universities as the government has cleared the necessary draft laws.
The 'Bangabandhu Public University Naogaon Act, 2022' and 'Thakurgaon University Act, 2022' drafts were approved in principle during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday.
The new laws have been drafted just like the other university laws in the country, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam told the media.
The laws are in line with the prime minister’s promise of a fully functional public university in all districts, he said.
The framework of the university will be similar to all other public universities with the president as the chancellor, the cabinet secretary said.
A capable academic will be appointed as the vice chancellor for a four-year tenure along with two pro-vice chancellors and a treasurer to oversee all matters.
The draft law allows the university to set its own set of rules to conduct academic and administrative activities and like all universities there will be a registrar office as well as a funding.
